Prawns (shrimp) Briyani / Prawn Dum Briyani


Mouthwatering Prawns Briyani Recipe... We love sea food at home.. I wanted to make some nice dish from fresh prawns.. Hence came up with idea of making prawn briyani.. Turned out damn delicious and yummy. Generally fish briyani is made with yogurt.. Here the prawn is marinate in yogurt masala and cook along with 3/4 cooked rice..... 


This shrimp briyani is very popular in hyderabad and easy to make, Adding fried onions make the briyani more flavourful and delicious one..I know everyone love briyani, It can be made pretty much with anything. The real tasty briyani is in the making of it.. Briyani can be made in a pressure cooker, but the real aroma of the briyani comes only when it is made in dum...

Preparation time : 151 mins
Marination time : 1/2 hour
Cooking time : 30 to 35 mins
Serve - 3

INGREDIENTS :

Basmati rice - 1 cup
Oil - 2 tbspn
Ghee - 2 tbspn
Fried onion - 1 cup
Ginger garlic paste - 1 tspn
Coriander leaves - few
Mint leaves - few
Coconut milk - 1/2 cup
Salt - as needed

FOR MARINATING PRAWNS :

Prawns - 20 medium size
Chilli powder - 1 tspn
Coriander powder - 1 tspn
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tspn
Garam masala powder - 1/2 tspn
Cumin powder - 1/4 tspn
Thick yogurt - 1/2 cup
Lemon - 1/2 
Salt - 1/2 tspn

METHOD :

  • Wash and soak the rice for 30 mins.. Drain and set aside..
  • Refer this post for "How to cook basmati rice"
  • Mix the prawns with the marination and set aside for 1/2 hour.
  • Heat ghee and oil in a pot in which you are going to make briyani..
  • Add in ginger garlic paste and toss well..
  • Now add in prawns and cook on high flame and add in 1/2 of the fried onions..
  • Saute it well for few seconds...
  • Then add in garam masala and mix well.
  • Now it's time to layer in 3/4 cooked basmati rice and spread it evenly...
  • Sprinkle in the remaining fried onions.
  • Some chopped coriander leaves and mint leaves..
  • Atlast add in thick coconut milk....
  • Cover with a tight lid and put on the very low flame for 10 to 15 mins.
  • After 15 mins no need to open for 10 mins..
  • Open and fluff lightly... Serve hot...


PICTORIAL :


Take some prawns in a bowl
Rice should be 95 % cooked 
Add in all spices powder
Salt
Thick yogurt
Squeeze some lemon juice
Now add in prawns
Mix well and marinate for 1/2 hour
Now take your ingredients
Heat a pan with ghee and oil
Add in ginger garlic paste
Toss well in the oil
Niow add in marinated prawns
Toss lightly in the oil
Add few fried onions 
It's time to mix
Now it cook for few seconds
Add some garam masala powder
Now layer the cooked basmati rice
Spread it evenly
Add in fried onions
Few coriander and mint leaves
Add in some thick coconut milk
Cover it with a lid and 
let it cook for 15 min in low heat
Now it's time to open
Give a gentle toss
Fluffy, yum yummy..

Now it's done 
Serve hot
