Simple Rava Upma Recipe


Rava Upma is a popular breakfast dish in india... It is a simplest, nutritious, tasty, easy and humble breakfast recipe that can be made in a jiffy.. One of my daughter's  favourite is "Rava Upma" She can never get boared out of it... she never complained... Be it for breakfast or dinner, if mom makes, I will be the most happy to eat..



But I have heard not many of the peoples like upma in their families... I don't know what could be the reason, but I love it.. I wanted to post this basic recipe for long, especially for the Bachelors... But since I make only in the morning, that too very rarely, I never find time to photograph this one.. (be fast)

INGREDIENTS :

Rava / Semolina - 1 cup
Water - 2 1/4 cups
Shallots / Small onion - 8 (chopped)
Green chilli - 2 (chopped)
Ginger - small pieces (finely chopped)
Fresh coconut - 3/4 (grated)
Salt - as needed

TO TEMPER :

Oil - 2 tbspn
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tspn
Urad dal - 1/2 tspn
Channa dal - 1 tbspn
Curry leaves - few

METHOD :

  • Heat a kadai and dry roast rava in medium flame..
  • Till the smell of rava wafts.. Don't let it change colour.. Set aside..
  • Again heat a pan with oil and temper with the items given under " TO TEMPER" table..
  • Add in shallots, green chillies, ginger and fry till transparent..
  • Add in water and salt, bring to boil..
  • Check for salt, add in roasted rava in a srinkled way as well as stirring side by side..
  • Will splutter a lot so be careful with it.. Mix well.
  • It will soon became thick absorbing water..
  • Cook covered bringing flame to low.
  • After 5 - 6 mins the upma should be done..
  • Now add in fresh grated cococnut..
  • Mix well and serve hot..
  • Enjoy..

PICTORIAL :


Take all your ingreients
Add rava to a pan
Roast well
Till the smell of rava wafts
Transfer it to a plate
Heat a pan with oil
Add in mustard seeds and urad dal
Add in channa dal
Now add in green chilli and ginger
Now all are roast
Add in curry leaves
Mix well
Add in shallots
Toss till transparent
Add in water
Another cup of water
Add in salt
Allow to boil
When it boiled
Add in roasted rava in a srinkled way
Will splutter a lot so be careful with it.. Mix well.
It will soon became thick absorbing water..
Keep mixing
Now it's almost done
Add in fresh coconut
 Mix well
Transfer it to a plate
Serve hot
