Ring Murukku

Ring murukku is new to me and tasted only from shops.. we have never tried at home.. When i was thinking what to make for evening snacks this time newly... Naveen wanted to make ring murukku So i adapted the recipe from sharmis - passions and my mom also gave me some ideas for it... and i tried a week back.. My aunty prepared some Homemade rice flour to me so think to prepared murukku from that ...so plan to make this Ring murukku...

Though I made it very less, still it look sometimes for me as it was totally new to me... It is betterfor just trying in small quantities, otherwise the rolling and making ring part is just time consuming than even kai murukku... And it comes out best only with fresh homemade rice flour... I wants to make this a cute looking murukku to my kids..

So if you don't mind spending time and want to make this yummy and delicious one.. You can try in small quantity as I have mentioned. Its a perfect tea time snack and kids love it as looks similar to onion rings and they like to insert their finger in it and eat playfully...It is also a best diwali snacks recipe...

Recipe cuisine - Indian
Recipe category - Snacks

INGREDIENTS :

Raw rice flour - 1 cup

Urad dal flour - 1 tbspn
Red chilli powder - 1 tspn
Asafoetida - 1/4 tspn
Sesame seeds - 1 tbspn
Jeera - 1 tspn
Butter - 1 tbspn
Salt - as needed

METHOD :

TO PREPARE RICE FLOUR :

  • Soak rice for an hour and drain water completely.
  • Spread for 30 mins in a clean towel to absorb the excess moisture..
  • Grind this into fine powder in mixie and sieve it to get rice flour..
  • You may get 1 and 1 1/2 cup of flour depending on the rice quality..

TO PREPARE RING MURUKKU :

  • Boil a cup of water in a vessel. Add buter and salt to it and then flour.
  • I added 1 cups of flour to get the dough..
  • Immediately switch off the flame and mix well.
  • The dough should be thick enough like the usual murukku dough..
  • So keep the flour ready to add more if needed.
  • Keep the dough to cool and warm enough to handle, add jeera, red chilli powder, asafoetida, sesame seeds and knead to a dough...
  • You can make it either roll goose berry sized balls ready fully, to make rings..
  • I roll an dkeep balls to make sure the rings are equally sized..
  • Roll into thin ropes and joint thwe ends to make rings..
  • Deep frying in the hot oil few per batch...
  • While a batch is getting cooked, you can make the next batch..
  • Fry in high flame but donot let it fume...till golden or the shh sound reduces..
  • Drain in a paper towel an dstore it in a air tight container..

NOTES:

  • Make sure you roll thin an deven sized to ensure even cooking.
  • If you use store brought rice flour add in 1 cup of water for 1 cup of rice flour..
  • If you reduce the flame while frying as we do for other snacks, ring murukku wont get cooked preperly and even it will became oily..
  • I used urad dal flour - roast urad dal, powdered and sieve it... Same way you can use moong dal flour..
