Onion Uttapam


Onion Uttapam is one regular  thing in my kitchen... I grind batter once in a week and make idli for two days and uttapam for one day... My son didn't like uttapam, he likes roast dosa or corn dosa My hubby like ordinary uttapam with large onions, and serve with tiffin sambar, coconut chutney, tomato kara chutney... 


For me before marriage, moms makes me this uttapam into a crispy onion dosa my dad mostly like that... Iam also a big fan of it and miss that a lot.... Its okay can any recipe website be without onion uttapam recipe? So here we go! If you are now to make uttapam at home... This post will sure help you.. You may also use small onion / shallots instead of big onion...That also yummy... Hope that you must try this recipe and comments about the uttapam....

INGREDIENTS  :

Large onion - 2 (sliced)
Shallots / small onion (if using) - 1/2 cup
Idli dosa, batter - as needed
Oil - 2 tspn (per uttapam)

METHOD :

  • Peel the skin and finely sliced the onion into long strips..
  • Take them in a bowl and squeeze the onion with your hands...keep aside
  • Heat a dosa tawa and spoon a ladle full of batter in hot greased dosa pan...
  • Sprinkle generously the chopped onions fully covering the top..
  • Drizzle some oil around the uttapam..
  • Cook it in medium flame..
  • After 1 mins, flip the uttapam and cook for 2 mins in low flame till the onions get golden and crisp.
  • Serve with chutney and sambar...


PICTORIAL :



 Take onion
 Peel the skin
 Sliced into long strips
 Transfer it into a bowl
 Squeeze them with your hands
 It should be seperated
 Now done keep aside
 Take your ingredients
 A spoon ful of batter on the heat dosa tawa
 Make like uttapam
 Sprinkle some sliced onions
 Like this
 Add a spoon of oil around the uttapam
 Flip the uttapam and cook it for 2 mins
 Serve hot
