Modakam / Modak Kolkattai


Modakam / Modak Kolkattai is a very special recipe for Lord Ganesh, my hubby too and he told me to often prepared this modak for all celebrations... The modak is filled with coconut filling and next i wants to try it with chana dal filling will post it soon... i didn'e use mould for this recipe... but it look pretty, beautiful and it melts in mouth .




Always make the poornam ready first then make the outer dough so that the outer dough doesn't get dried up.. Once the poornam are ready you can relax, watch ur favourite tv program and do the kolkattai....I hope you will love this recipe... please try this and let me know how it's turns out....

INGREDIENTS : 

FOR DOUGH :

Rice flour / Store brought Arisi mavu - 1 cup
Salt - as needed
Hot boiling water - as needed
Coconut oil - 1 tspn

FOR FILLING :

Jaggery / Sarkarai / Palm sugar - 1 1/2 cup
Fresh coconut - 1 1/2 cup
Cardomom powder / Yelakai Podi - 1 tspn

METHOD :

  • Take jaggery and coconut in a pan an dheat till it melted.. 
  • Heat it in a low flame.. doesn't stick at the bottom of the pan..
  • When the coconut mixture thick add in cardamom powder and mix well..
  • Remove to a bowl allow to cool down..
  • Now make the dough.. Take flour in a bowl add in salt.. and keep aside..
  • Take water in a sauce pan, add in coconut oil allow to boil.
  • When it reaches a boil, pour it to the rice flour mixture and mix well.
  • It will became like a sticky dough..
  • Make it into a soft dough... 
  • Take a small portion of dough and flatten it thinly.. 
  • Place a small ball of filling in it and cover it.. Pull around the edges and bring it to centre over the top of the filling... 
  • Roll it between your hands to smoothen it...
  • Now follow the procedure to remaining dough too....
  • Now place this in a steamer and steam it for 8 to 10 mins..
  • Let it cool for 5 mins before removing and serve...

PICTORIAL :



Take your filling ingredients
Add coconut to a pan
Them add in palm sugar
If needed sprinkle some water to melts
Stir well
Now it's started to melts
Now add in cardamom powder
Mix well
Stir it to form thick filling
Now it's done
Transfer it into a bowl to cool down
Now for the dough take flour in a bowl
Add in salt
Mix well
In asauce pan add in water
Some oil
Allow to boil
Pour it to the flour mix
Mix well 
Add little by little to form a dough
Now the dough is ready
Take a small portion of dough
Flatten it
Spoon some filling
Roll it into ball
Make all the remaining balls
Place it in a steamer
Let it steam for 7 mins
Now it's done
Serve hot
As neyvediyam.....
