White Channa Sundal / Kondakadalai Sundal


Chana sundal is a south indian stir fried dish made with white chickpeas. Sundal is basically a dry legume - lendil preparation, tempered with frsh coconut...They are very easy to prepare and make for a healthy brunch or snack... Since they are quick to prepare, they can also serve as a side dish...



This white chickpeas sundal is so good with the aroma and flavour of mustard, urad dal, chilli, curry leaves... and freshness of the coconut in the softly cooked chickpeas... that it can be just had on its own without any accompaniments...


Preparation time : 8 to 9 hours
Cooking time : 20 mins
Recipe : snacks
Serve - 3

INGREDIENTS :

White chickpeas - 1 cup
Water - 3 cups
Salt - as needed
Coconut - 4 tbspn (grated)

FOR TEMPER :

Oil - 1 tspn
Mustard - 1/2 tspn
Broken dry chilli - 4
Asafoetida - 1 pinch
Curry leaves - few..

METHOD :

  • Soak the chana over night,..
  • Cook the chana in a pressure cooker for 3 whistled along with water and salt... 
  • And then strain the kala chana and keep aside..
  • Heat a pan with oil, add mustard seeds..
  • Allow to crackle and add in broken dry chilli, asafoetida and curry leaves..
  • Fry it for few secs.. Now add in cooked white chana and saute for a min..
  • Switch off the flame and add the coconut... stir well..
  • Now serve hot as prashad or neivedyam...

PICTORIAL :

Take white chana in a bowl
Soak it for 8 hours
Add it to the cooker
Some salt
Pressure cook for 3 whistled
Now it's ready
Drain them
Now take tempering items
Add spoon of oil, mustrd, urad dal
Add in broken chilli
Few curry leaves
Apinch of asafoetida
Toss well
It's done
Add in cooked chana
Now add in fresh cocnut
Toss well
Serve hot
