Spicy Andhra Rasam / Spicy Andhra tomato Rasam



This Andhra style rasam is like the big daddy of all rasams you had ever tasted spicy to it's core and loaded with flavour of garlic, tamarind, roasted fresh coconut various other spices.. As its all siblings this spicy andhra rasam is best enjoyed with a steamed rice, papad, poriyal, a delicious chutney...


Tried it during a winter and see how your body heatup from inside.. The spicy south indian fare is also know as Poondu rasam in Tamilnadu.. Normally you don't add coconut in rasam, but this is a different style of rasam and it's it so yummy..


My hubby started to drinking this like a soup.. so you must try this rasam and let me know how it's turns out from you....

INGREDIENTS :

Tomato - 2 (chopped)
Boiled toor dal - 1 cup
Tamarind dal - 1 cup
Salt - as needed
Coriander leaves - few (chopped)
Garlic cloves - 6 nos (crushed)

TO ROAST AND GRIND :

Dry red chilli - 6 nos
Coriander seeds - 1 tbspn
Pepper - 1/2 tspn
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tspn
Bengal gram / Kadalai paruppu - 1 tspn
Fresh coconut - 1/4 cup (grated)
oil - 1 tspn

TO TEMPER :

Coconut oil - 1 tspn
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tspn
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tspn
Curry leaves - few

METHOD :

  • First roast the given ingredients with a spoon of oil in a pan, and make it a smooth paste..
  • Then again heta a pan with oil and add in chopped tomatoes..
  • Allow the tomato to little mushy and then add in turmeric powder..
  • Now add in masala puree and little water..
  • Cook it for a min and add in cooked dal, mix well
  • Then add in tamarind water, salt, and allow to boil for 5 mins..
  • When it almost done switch off the flame and add in coriander leaves and crushed garlic and mix well. Keep aside.
  • Now heat small pan with tempered items and pour this to the prepared rasam..
  • Give it a mix and then leave the rasam in the pan itself for 15 mins..
  • After 15 mins transfer them into a serving bowl.
  • Enjoy with steamed white rice and spicy sidedish ..

Take all roated ingredients 
Take all your ingredients
Heat a pan with oil
Add fresh coconut
Other ingredients
Roast till light brown
Allow to cool completely
Transfer them to a plate
Make it into a paste
Heat a pan with oil
Add chopped onion
When it became mushy, add turmeric powder
Add in masala paste
Add little water
Mix well
Now add in boiled dal
Good amount of tamarid water
Add some salt
Allow to boil for 5 mins
Now it's alomst done
Swich off the flame, and add in conander leaves
Now add in crushed garlic
Now give it a mix
Heat a pan with coconut oil
Add in mustard seeds
Add in cumin seeds and curry leaves
When it's done pour to the rasam
Give a mix
Keep it for 15 mins in the pan
Pour it to a serving bowl
Yummy andhra rasam is done
