Sweet Pidi Kozhukattai / Pidi Kolukattai Sweet


Sweet pidi kozhukattai is my son's favourite on since from his childhood.. My aunt makes this atleast once in a month as a evening snacks.. It is easy to make when compare to the modak.. Pidi kozhukattai ia regular neivedhyam dish we do for vinayakar chaturti or for kids after school snacks or even dinner... It is tasty as well as healthy too...



I plan to  make another version of kolukattaies one is uppu kolukattai with fresh coconut and another is kara kollukattai.. so keep watching my site soon i will post that.. I just go crazy eating without any counts.. Here iam using store brought rice flour that is coarse but home made rice flour, the water quantity may vary... 



So i hope that you must try this recipe and let me know how it's turns out from you...

INGREDIENTS :

Rice flour - 1 cup
Fresh coconut - 1 cup (grated)
Sesame seeds / Ellu - 1 tbspn
Moong Dal / Siru Paruppu - 2 tbspn
Jaggery - 1 1/2 cup
Cardamom powder - 1 tspn
Water - 1 cup

METHOD : 

  • First dry roast coconut, sesame seeds, moond dal seperately and transfer them to a plate..
  • Then heat a pan with water and add in jaggery and mix well.
  • Allow the jaggery to melts and add in a cup of rice flour and mix well.
  • Then add in roasted coconut, sesame seeds, moong dal..and mix well.
  • Then off the stove and transfer this mixture to a bowl..
  • Then allow it to cool completely.
  • Knead it with your palm to make smooth dough..
  • Take a small portion of dough in your palm and press it to bring an oblong shaped dumplings.. 
  • Arrange them in a steamer or idli plates..
  • And steam cook it for 10 to 12 mins..or untill the kolukattai is done..
  • Serve and enjoy...


PICTORIAL :


Take the roasted ingredients
In a wide pan add in seasame seeds
Roast till it splutter
Then transfer it into a plate
Then moong dal for few seconds
When the aroma comes out transfer it into a plate
Then add in fresh grated coconut and roast
Now all are done, keep aside
Take some water, jaggery and allow to melts completely
When it's melts add in rice flour
Mix well
While mixing it add in all roasted items
Mix well 
Add some cardamom powder
Transfre it into a wide bowl
When it cool completely mix well (like a dough)
Now take small portion of dough
Press inbetween your hands
Like this
All are done
Now place it in a streamer (idli boiler)
Cover it with lid for 20 mins
Now all are done
Transfer it into a plate
Enjoy..
