Onion Tomato Chutney


Onion Tomato chutney is one the quickest and easiest chutney recipes.. I make it often... I have already post a version of Onion tomato kara chutney recipe with small onions but this is ammas version, she usually makes this for travel as a sidedish for idli or uttapams..  


I can say this is one of the versatile chutneys as it goes well for most breakfast dishes... It's taste is really yummy.. I like to have with Rava dosai.. I prefer to use is gingelly oil because of its aroma and taste.. I dont make the same chutney twice.. and i like to experiment with the chutney.. Sure you must give it a try and let know how its turns out for you...

INGREDIENTS :

Gingelly oil - 2 tbsp
Dry chilli - 6 nos
Garlic - 7 nos
Tomatoes - 3 large
Onions - 1 (big size sliced)
Salt - as needed

FOR TEMPERING :

Gingelly oil - 2 spn
Mustard - 1/2 tsp
Urad dal - 1/2 tspn
Small onions - 2 (finely chopped)
Red chilli - 2 (broken)
Curry leaves as needed

METHOD :

  • Heat oil in a pan. Fry dry chilli, garlic till golden, remove to a plate. 
  • In the same oil add sliced onion, chopped tomatoes and cook till it turn completely mushy.
  • Now take garlic, chilli, tomatoes, onion, salt in a blender and make into a smooth paste. Add water if needed. and keep aside.
  • Now make tempering by heat oil in a kadai.
  • Add mustard, urad dal allow to crackle
  • Add in chopped onions, curry leaves and fry it for 2 sec.
  • Pour grinded masala to that, and toss it for a min.
  • Now onion tomato chutney.
  • Serve this with idli or dosa....

PICTORIAL :


In a kadai add in garlic and chilli
Along with a spoon of oil 
Toss well till light brown
Remove it to a plate
Now cut the onion and tomatoes
Toss it in the same kadai
Mix well
Till it became mushy
In a blender add in garlic and chilli
Along with that onion tomato mixture
Spoon of salt
Make it to a paste
In a kadai add in mustard, urad dal allow to crackle
Add in broken chilli
Chopped onions and curry leaves
Now add in grinded paste
Cook it for 5 to 7 mins
Now it's done
Serve it with dosa
