Vazhipoo is in our recipe menu often as I love this recipe with green chilli as masala amd adding fresh grated coconut...This is my mom's recipe, when she came here with my sister in last vacation, my hubby brought this banana flower from our village.. I plan to make my normal poriyal which i have already posted in my blog..
But my mom told, i prepare this banana flower with green chilli and frresh coconut.. So i remove the big skin and take the florets found inside the bract, in the florets find a thick string in the middle and rubbery skin out side.. Remove both from each florets and chopped it into tiny bits.. Put into the water with little butter milk, This will avoid decolouration of the florets..I gave it my mom, she make it as a delicious, yummy and tasty poriyal.

INGREDIENTS :
Vazhipoo / Banana flower - 1
Salt - as needed
Water - 1 cup
Fresh grated coconut - 1 cup
FOR MASALA :
Green chilli - 4 nos
Garlic - 1 cloves
Cumin seeds - 1/4 tspn
Fresh coconut - 2 tspn
Shallots / Small onion - 4 to 5 nos
TO TEMPER :
Coconut oil - 2 tbspn
Mustard seeds - 1 tspn
Urad dal - 1 tspn
Shallots - 3 nos (chopped)
Curry leaves - few
METHOD :
- Make the masala first, the ingredients given in the list " FOR MASALA" into a blender and pluse it once..Keep aside.
- Heat a pan with coconut oil and temper it with mustard, urad dal, shallots, curry leaves..
- When it became little brown, add in vazhaipoo and toss well in the oil.
- For 2 to 3 mins, and add in water and mix well.
- Cover it with lid and cook till water evaporate..
- Inbetween toss it lightly and the water 3/4 evaporate add in salt, grounded paste..
- Cover it with lid (no need to mix).
- After 2 mins open the lid and give it a mix ..
- Again, it will relase some water so cover it with lid and cook for few mins.
- Open the lid and mix well.
- Once it cook and raw smell goes, add in grated fresh coconut.
- Mix evenly and serve hot..

PICTORIAL :
Preapare your vazhipoo and chopped it
Take the masala ingredients
Take them in a blender
Pulse it lightly, keep aside
Heat a pan with coconut oil
Add in mustard seeds. allow to crackle
Add in urad dal
Add in chopped shallots and curry leaves
Toss till brown
Add in vazhipoo without water
Mix well
Along with oil
Once it mix
Add in water
Mix evenly
Cover it with lid and cook
Open the lid
Mix it once
When the water evaporates
Add some salt
Add in grinded masala
No need to mix, cover it with lid
Once after 2 mins
Masala blended with vazhipoo
Mix it evenly
Cover it with lid
Now it almost done
Add in fresh grated coconut
Mix well.
Done
Transfer to the serving bowl
