Ven Pongal is a very easy and comfort food in south indian cuisine... Usually I make it this when I am lazy to make breakfast recipes. I make with sambar, chutney, vadai, will be the great sidedish for Pongal.. Even Tiffin sambar will be great accompaniment....
Preparing pongal is easy job for me in my kitchen.. But I can browse this recipe from one of the blog and tried this... result was so amazing and loved by every one in my family... The Main thing of this pongal is to be dry or more watery...
This is a hotel style pongal especially Saravana bhavan hotel pongal... My uncle like this very much, he often ask me to prepare this type of pongal, But I have already posted Ven pongal and Pongal sambar in my own recipe already in my blog You can visit it also..... INGREDIENTS :
Raw rice = 1 cup
Moong dal / Pasi paruppu - 1/4 cup
Water - 4 cups
Salt - as needed
TO TEMPER :
Ghee - 3 tbspn
Mustard - 1 tspn
Urad dal - 1 tspn
Pepper - 2 tspn
Ginger - 1 tbspn (finely chopped)
Cumin seeds - 1 tspn
Curry leaves - few
METHOD :
- Take dal and rice combained in a bowl..
- Wash well and add it to the cooker and add in water, salt..
- Pressure cook for 3 whistle and set aside..
- Now heat a pan add tempered items given in the list " TO TEMPER" one by one..
- Toss it till light brown and pour to the prepared pongal..
- Give it a mix (mash) and noted it should mix evenly..
- Now it's done.. Serve hot...
PICTORIAL :
Take rice and dal
Combain them in a bowl
Wash them well an drain it
Add it to the cooker
Add in water
Some salt
Now it's done, keep aside
Take tempering items
In a pan add ghee
Add in mustard and urad dal, allow to spltture
Add in cumin seeds
Some pepper
Chopped ginger
Now toss it lightly
Add in cashew, fry till golden
Pour it to the prepared pongal
Mash it with ladle
Now it's done
Serve hot
Enjoy..
