Keerai Vadai / Spinach Vadai


Keerai Vadai / Spinach Vadai is a very popular evening snacks in south india.. It can be prepared either with urad dal or channa dal or masala vadai too.. I have a pleasent memories with this vada when I was 9th std, there is a tea stall near my school they prepare hot Bajji, Bonda, Methu Vadai and this keerai vadai, I enjoyed this keerai vadai with my friends, it was awesome and I couldn't forget the taste still now.. 



Now - a - days kids don't like spinach, so we plan to make this keerai vadai, Keerai Cutlet, Keerai Rice and many more.. This can be long time I planning to make spinach vadai to my kids, so I tried this vada for first time, it comes out well, so crispy, delicious and main thing my loved it..

Soaking time : 2 hours

INGREDIENTS :

Spinach / Keerai - 1 cup (any greens)
Channa dal - 1 cup
Onion - 1 (chopped finely)
Ginger - 1 inch piece (chopped finely)
Green chilli - 1 (chopped finely)
Feenel seeds - 1 tspn
Asafoetida - a pinch
Rice flour - 1 1/2 tbspn
Salt - as needed
Coconut oil - for frying

METHOD :

  • Soak channa dal for 2 hours, drain the water and grind it into a coarsely mixture..
  • Wash the chopped greens well and keep aside..
  • Transfer the channa dal into a bowl and add in feenel seeds, rice flour, asafoetida, salt, onion, chilli, ginger and mix well.
  • Then add in chopped greens and give it a good mix..
  • Then cheack for salt and shape the dough in to a small balls..
  • Heat a pan with coconut oil to smoke..
  • Now take one ball of dough and flatten it lightly into vada and drop them into the oil..
  • Drop the vada one by one and cook it medium flame for even sooking..
  • Flip the vadas and cook for few mins and cook on the other side..
  • Take them out and drain it in tissue paper..
  • Make them in batch and serve hot with a cup of filter coffee or tea..
  • Enjoy..

PICTORIAL :


Take all your ingredients
Soak the channa dal in water for 2 hours
Now it soaked well
Drain the water completely
Take them in a blender
Make it a coarsely mixture
Remove it to a bowl
Add in feenel seeds
Add in rice flour
Add inasafoetida
Add in salt
Add in onion, chilli, ginger
Give it a good mix
Add in fresh chopped greens
Now time to mix well
Now it's done
Take a smal portion of dough
Roll it into a ball
Place it on the plate
All are done
Take one ball and place it in your palm
Flatten it lightly
Heat a pan with oil
Drop it one by one
Let it cook for few mins
Flip it and cook it medium flame
Now it's almost done
Take it away from the oil
Drain it tissue paper
Serve hot with coffee or tea
Looks yummy
