Tradional Mutton Curry / Mutton Gravy With Diced Potatoes is our family all time favourite one... We loved it with hot plain white rice.. My previous post is this recipe's pair which is Elumbu Kuzhambu.. When we bought some mutton for lunch we like to have Elumbu kuzhambu, boiled eggs, Mutton kola urundai and this traditional mutton curry is a superb combo with rice and the taste is awesome and delicious...
Soon I will post the combo meals for you so keep watching... Come to the recipe, the important thing in our south indian traditional is, we ground the masala for Mutton, chicken and fish kuzhambu.. so the really taste is divine... I already post some tradional recipes in my blog...

INGREDIENTS :
Mutton - 750 grams (without bone and cut into small pieces)
Potato - 3 (large, peel and cut into small pieces)
Water - 1/2 cup
Salt - as needed
TO GRIND :
- Ginger - 3 pieces, garlic - 3 cloves, shallots - 10 nos, turmeric powder - 1/2 tspn, cumin powder - 1/2 tspn. (make it into coarse paste).
- Fresh grated coconut - 1 cup (make into paste)
- Dry chilli - 20 nos, Coriander seeds - 3 tbspn (Roast and make it a fine paste)
TO TEMPER :
Gingelly oil - 3 tbspn
Mustard seeds - 1 tspn
Shallots - 4 (chopped)
Curry leaves - few
METHOD :
- First prepare your mutton and keep aside..
- Chop the potatoes into small squares and keep aside..
- Prepare the masalas given in " TO GRIND" and keep aside...
- In a pressure cooker add mutton and shallots masala paste and 1/2 cup of water..
- Whistle for 4 and leave to subside the pressure by itself..
- Now open the cooker and add in chilli paste and mix well.
- Then add in chopped potatoes and give it a mix and cook for 10 to 15 mins.
- Now add in salt and mix well, now add in fresh coconut paste and mix well.
- Leave to cook for another 10 mins.. in low flame.
- In another stove heat a pan with oil, add in mustard seeds..allow to splutter..
- Now add in chopped shallots and few curry leaves and fry till golden..
- Atlast add 1/2 tspn of chilli paste for the redness of the gravy..
- Immediately switch off the flame..
- Pour the tempered items into the gravy and mix well.
- Simmer for 5 to 7 mins till the oil seperated from the gravy..
- Switch offthe flame and give a mix...
- Now the Tradional mutton curry / mutton gravy with diced potatoes is ready to serve..
- Serve it with hot boiled white rice..
- Enjoy....
PICTORIAL :
Prepare your mutton and wash well
Cut the potatoes and keep aside
Take dry chilli and coriander seeds in a kadai
With a spoon of gingelly oil
Toss lightly
Now make it a fine paste
Take some fresh coconut
Make it a paste
In a mixer take ginger, garlic, shallots
Some turmeric powder
Few cumin powder
Make it a coarse paste
Now it's done
In a pressure cooker add mutton pieces
Add in shallots paste
Add some water
Give it a mix
Now it's done
Close the lid and whistle for 4
Open the lid
Now the mutton is half cooked
Add in chilli paste
Give a mix
Add in chopped potatoes
Mix well
Allow to cook for 10 mins
Add some salt
Add in fresh coconut masala
Give it a mix
Now slow the flame for 15 mins
In another stove heat a kadai with gingelly oil
Add mustard seeds
Some chopped shallots
Few curry leaves
Fry it till golden brown
Add 1/2 tspn of chilli paste for colour
Immediately switch off the flame
Pour it to the curry
Now give it a mix
Allow to cook for another 5 mins
Till the oil floats on the top
Now it's done, switch off the flame
Finally mix well
Transfer it to a serving bowl
Serve with white rice
