Potato Kara Poriyal / Spicy Potatao Poriyal is simple and easy with sambar rice or sothi lunch meals.. Potatao is one vegetable which is like by adults and kids alike.. It is favourite at our home too.. While going through the posts on my blog the other day, I realized I haven't post our family's most loved curry..
So This weekend I decided to cook and click this all time favourite of many.. This is very simple, even beginners can prepare it.. Here I add sliced onions but It is an optional one.. It goes with sothi Kuzhambu, Ginger Pachadi, and potato kara poriyal is bliss... So here is my potato curry...

INGREDIENTS :
Potatoes - 3 (cut into medium size)
Onion - 1 (sliced)
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tspn
Chilli powder - 1/2 tspn
Sambar powder - 1 tspn
Garam masala powder - 1/2 tspN
Asafoetida - a pinch
Salt - as needed
TO TEMPER :
Oil - 2 tbspn
Mustard - 1 tspn
Urad dal - 1/2 tspn
Channa dal - 1 tspn
Curry leaves - few
METHOD :
- Wash the potatoes and cut them into small pieces..
- Heat a pan with oil, temper with mustard seeds, urad dal allow to crackle..
- Now add in channa dal, curry leaves, onion, asafoedita and mix gently..
- Let it roast for few mins.. Add in potatoes and mix well with a spoon of salt..
- Add in turmeric powder and add some water..
- Let it cook for 7 mins or the potatoes are half cooked..
- Now add in masala powders, give it a mix and reduce the flame (noted that it should not be burn)
- Stir well and roasted for few mins till raw smell leaves..
- Serve hot...
PICTORIAL :
Take the potatoes
Cut them into small pieces..
Add in urad dal
Add in channa dal
Some curry leaves
Sliced onions
A pinch of asafoetida
Roast it for few sec
Add in potatoes
Sprinkle some turmeric powder
Some salt
A cup of water
When it half cooked add in spices powders
Toss well along with the spices
When the potatoes cooked completely and raw smell leaves
Transfer it into a serving bowl
Serve hot
