Thiunelveli Famous Mutton Varuval


This mutton varuval is a lipsmacking dish, from thirunelveli for south india... If you like spicy gravies with boiled white rice.. Then this recipe is obvously for you... Yuppp.... this mutton curry is very hot... It makes a delicious combo with indian rotis and also with rasam, sambar rice, etc...Its not only a mouth watering dish, It also makes us feel like we had a hearty meal....




I remember, my hubby like this curry in one of the famous hotel in thirunelveli it's named Prabhu... Hotel is very famous for this mutton varuval they served it with boiled hot white rice, the taste is really a heaven...You may also serve it with Coconut Milk Ghee Rice which have already posted in my blog...

INGREDIENTS :

Mutton - 1/2 kg (boneless)
Dry red chilli - 6
Cinnamon - 2 sticks
Onion - 2 (chopped)
Tomato - 2 (chopped)
Ginger garlic paste - 1 tbspn
Onion paste - 1 tbspn
Coconut paste - 2 tbspn
Small onion - 15 (sliced)
Soya sauce - 1 tbspn
Curd - 3 tbspn
Coriander leaves - few
Salt - as needed
Curry leaves - few
Gingelly oil - 4 tbspn

SPICES POWDER :

Chilli powder - 1 tbspn
Garam masala powder - 1/2 tspn
Pepper powder - 1/2 tspn
Coriander powder - 1/2 tspn
Cumin powder - 1/4 tspn

METHOD :


  • Take bone less mutton and cut it into small pieces and wash well..
  • Then make onion paste, ginger garlic paste and fresh coconut paste and keep aside...
  • In a pressure cooker add oil, season with some dry chilli and cinnamon sticks..
  • Add in chopped onions and curry leaves anfd fry till golden colour...
  • Now add in chopped tomatoes, toss it lightly..
  • Add in onion paste and ginger garlic paste and toss it well..
  • Now add in all the spices powder and salt give a mix....
  • When the paste became mushy add in chopped mutton and coconut paste and mix well.
  • Now add in chopped shallots / small onions and give it a mix..
  • Toss the mutton along with the masala paste and leave it for 7 mins..
  • Now add in soya sauce and give a mix..
  • Then toss well for another 5 mins..Now add in curd and give a mix..
  • Now add some water and chopped coriander leaves and mix well.
  • Pressure it for 5 whistled or till the mutton is done..
  • After some times open it and mix well.. Now the gravy is ready..
  • Serve with white rice or roti...


PICTORIAL :


Take your mutton pieces
Chopped into small pieces
Heat a pan with gingelly oil
Add in dry chilli, cinnamon
Add in chopped onion
Toss well till transparent
Add in curry leaves
Toss well till brown
Add in tomatoes
Add in ginger garlic paste and onion paste
Toss well till mushy
Add in spices powder
Add in salt
Toss till mushy
Add in mutton pieces
Add in coconut paste
Add in chopped small onion
Mix well till mushy
Add in soya sauce
Toss well for 7 mins
Add in curd
Add in some water
Add in coriander leaves
Close it well and whistled it for 5
Now it's done
Serve hot
