Idli podi or ulutham paruppu milagai podi, we call it as a dry spicy powder mixes with ghee or sesame oil, used as an accompaniment for idli and dosas. This is authentic recipe which I learnt from my moms, and she in-turn learnt from my grandmother.
In my in- laws side also same, expect some few changes..... This is so very different from store bought powder. This is very aromatic, flavourful, spicy, and tasty powder a lot better than the store dought one....

Makes - 1 1/2 cups

INGREDIENTS :
Urad dal - 1/2 cup
Channa dal - 1/4 cup
Red chillies - 20 nos
Asafetida - 1/4 tsp
Sesame seeds - 1/4 tsp
Garlic - 1
Coconut - 1/2 cup (grated)
Oil - 3 tbsp
Salt to taste.
METHOD :
- Roast all the ingredients one by one with a spoon of oil, except salt, asafoetida and toss it till golden brown and cool down.
- Grind the fryed items along with the salt and asafoetida.
- Into a fine little coarse powder, How i like!!!.
- Enjoy this podi obviousy with idli or dosa and spread with ghee.
- It is sutable for nei podi dosai.
