Nendran (banana) chips


Nendran banana chips are the stable snacks of kerala state in india, no one can ever perfect the art of nendran chips making like people from kerala... Usually my kids and my lovely sister like it, so store brought chips are no prepared in good oil so we just prepare it at home in easy way... 


I love the way its cooked and serve hot on a cold rainy day, the climate keeps every one or atleast me in an imbalanced diet one day it's cold and the other day its hot and sizzing.. Yup, like any other cold day I felt like munching something crunchy then I pulled out a few bananas from the pantry to make chips. 




It is easy to make and needs no treatments. just peel of the skin, slice in a deep fry in oil. super easy right?  This chips comes out very well and tasty and so so flavour ful by itself. It can be best snacks for your kids they really cant stop eating just one. My sister finished this in one time.. itself... and she always have to eat this chips in her collage hostel so he asked my amma to make this. And it is lot better than the store bought chips....

Preparation time : 5 Mins
Cooking time : 10 - 15 Mins

Recipe - kerala cuisine

INGREDIENTS :

Nendran banana - 10 (unripe)
Turmeric powder - 1 tbsp
Salt - 2 tbsp
Water - 1 cup
Oil - for frying (coconut oil brings out best flavour)

METHOD :

  • Peel off the skin of the large sized plantain.
  • Now take a bowl add turmeric powder, salt, and water mix it untill the salt dissolved.
  • Heat oil in a pan and slice should be thin so as to get crispy, 
  • Hold the slicer over hot oil. Oil should be really hot.
  • You can make flame simmer while slicing to avoid heat to hands, but oil should be heated hot.
  • Slice the unripe banana, add a spoon of turmeric water that allready prepared it in the first and then cook in medium flame.
  • Stir now and then for even cooking. continue cooking in high flame untill the bubbles ceasas and 'shh'. sound ceases.
  • Drain it in a stainer and repeat the process for the rest.
  • Now the hot chips is ready for the snacks.

PICTORIAL:

Take nendran unripe bananas

Make slashes on it
Peel of the skin on it


Ready all the bananas and keep aside
In a bowl add turmeric powder
Some salt
Mix well
Add some water 
Mix untill the salt dissolved
Take banana slicer
Heat pan with oil and slice the banana over the heat oil
Like this
Add a spoon of turmeric water
Mix well
Then ready your strainer
When the bubbles ceases
Then drain it
It's ready 
Serve
Enjoy hot!!!!!
