Carrot Poriyal


Carrot poriyal recipe is a simple and healthy dry textured south indian recipe (more specifically Tamil style) curry prepared using carrot, moong dal and coconut. It's one of the easiest indian recipes wherein chopped carrot is stir- fried with sambar powder and fresh grated coconut...Simple yet delicious! for those who are not familier with south indian food, carrot poriyal is also know as carrot palya in karnataka...

Preparation time : 10 mins
Cooking time : 12 mins
Serve - 2 

INGREDIENTS :

Moong dal - 1 tbspn
Carrot - 3 (chopped)
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tspn
Urad dal - 1/2 tspn
Sambar powder - 1 tbspn
Curry leaves - few
Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
Oil - 2 tspn
Salt - as needed

METHOD :

  • Soaked moong dal in water for 10 mins. Drain excess water and keep aside.
  • Heat a pan with oil, add mustard seeds, urad dal and allow to sizzle.
  • Add in curry leaves, finely chopped carrot and toss it lightly in oil.
  • Now add in soaked moong dal and some water. 
  • When it boil add salt and cover it with lid and cook over low flame untill carrot turns soft..
  • Stir occasionally in between, add sambar powder and stir well. Till raw smell is gone.
  • Now add grated fresh coconut, mix and cook over low flame and transfer it to a serving bowl.
  • Serve it as a side dish in lunch or dinner. 
  • It can be also served with chapathi or phulka as a heathly meal....


PICTORIAL :

Take your ingredients
Soak the moong dal and drain water from it
Heat a pan with oil and add mustard, urad dal
Add curry leaves
Add chopped carrot
Toss well it in the oil
Add soaked moong dal
Add some water
When it boil
Add some salt
When it became soft
Add sambar powder
Toss well
Add grated coconut
Serve
