Already I have posted Pongal sambar and Eddi sambar for appam in my blog, posteded almost 3 month back. This is another version of tiffin sambar perfect for special dosa. My mom usually make tiffin sambar for idli and dosai and i think to make some different in my blog... So i think it off and make this version of tiffin sambar...
This sambar made with Moong dal, tomatoes, green chillies, shallots.. but you can adopted this and make it with other veggies also. Other vegetables which works best are - Plain with lot of shallots, yellow pumkin, drumstick and brinjal. There are few special few things in sambar that is fresh ground sambar powder, grated coconut and fresh coriander leaves these thing make sthe sambar smell heavenly.. The whole house will be pleasent with a pleasent smell whenyou make it....
My hubby favourite sambar when i prepared first time, he ask me do the sambar every time... when iam prepared he mash the idlies along with sambar and make it look more rice and eat.. He like the sambar and enjoyed the tiffin...

Moong dal - 1 cup
Asafoetida - 1 pinch
Water - 2 cups
Onion - 1 (sliced)
Tomato - 2 (sliced)
Shallots / small onion - 7
Green chilli - 6 (sliced)
Sambar powder - 2 tbspn
Turmeric powder - 1 tspn
Coconut - 1/4 cup
Coriander leaves - few
Salt - as needed
FOR TEMPER :
Coconut oil - 2 tspn
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tspn
Urad dal - 1/2 tspn
Dry red chilli - 4 (broken)
Curry leaves - few

METHOD :
- First cut all your veggies and keep aside.
- In a pressure cooker boil the moong dal, asafoetida, and some water let them to boil for 5 mins.
- Now add in all veggies along with the dal and give a mix..
- Cover the lid and whistle for 3, Once it done mash the dal smoothly.
- Add some sambar powder, turmeric powder and again give a mix..
- Now add water, salt and mix well. allow to boil for 7 mins..
- Now add grated coconut and chopped coriander and give a mix and then swich off the flame.
- In a kadai add coconut oil, mustard, urad dal, chillies and curry leaves and temper it..
- Now pour it into the sambar and give a mix.
- Now it's ready to serve hot..
- Enjoy...
PICTORIAL :
Take moong dal in cup
Add to the cooker
Add some water and let them to boil
Prepare your veggies
Add to the cooker along with the moong dal
Whistled it for 3
Now t's done
Add sambar powder
Some turmeric powder and mash it with ladle
Add some water
Then salt
Bring to boil for 7 to 10 mins
At the same time heat a pan with oil
Add mustard and urad dal
Then add
Toss well in the oil
Pour it to the sambar
Add some fresh coconut
Some coriander leaves
Give a mix and off the stove
Now it's ready
Serve hot
