Mini Idli Sambar Recipe / Sambar Idli


Mini idli sambar is easy and delicious breakast or dinner recipe.. It is a super combo, when its served hot.. Mini sambar idli is my kids favourite recipe that I wants to buy mini ldli maker and give it a try this recipe long time.... This perfect sambar, pour over the idli well suitable for this recipe.. That I browse more website to make this recipe... because I wants it's to be a perfect one....


The main thing you have to noted that the sambar or the idlies should be hot for perfect absorbing. Just do this mixing 5 mins before you serve. I adopted this recipe from Raks but make a little changes to my taste.. This sambar is simple just adding sambar powder but one important notes the sambar be made more with tomatoes and less in tamarind. Ghee is perfect for tempering this sambar and topping too.

INGREDIENTS :

FOR MAKING DAL :

Toor dal - 1/2 cup
Turmaric powder 1/4 tspn
Asafoetida - 1/4 spn 
Red chilli - 2 nos

FOR SAMBAR :

Shallots / Small onions - 15 nos
Tamarind extract - 2 tbspn
Tomato - 2 (chopped)
Sambar powder - 2 tbspn
Fresh grated coconut - 4 tspn
Coriander leaves - (chopped)as needed

TO TEMPER :

Coconut oil - 3 tspn
Mustard - 1tspn
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tspn
Urad dal - 1/2 tspn
Red chilli - 2 nos (broken)
Curry leaves - as needed

TO ASSAMBLE :

Mini idli - as needed
Ghee - as needed

METHOD :

  • Prepare your mini idli and keepaside..
  • In a pressure cooker add dal, turmaric, chilli, asafoetida, and some water, Close the lid and whistled it for 4..
  • When it cooked mash the dal well once done. keep aside.
  • Heat a kadai, add peeled small onions, tomatoes, fry it well 
  • Add tamarind juice, sambar powder and required salt bring to boil..
  • At this stage add cooked dal to that and mix well
  • Now boiled it for 5 mins. Then add coconut, chopped coriander leaves.. Give it a mix..
  • Heat a kadai, temper the items given under ' to temper ' table in order and fry for a minute and pour in the sambar 
  • Now off the stove you may also top with some ghee (optional). The sambar is ready for making sambar idly.
  • Then arrange mini idlli in a plate and pour the sambar over it..
  • Topped it with some ghee (optional) to make the recipe perfect. 
  • The mini idli sambar is ready to serve.

PICTORIAL :


Take ingredients for making dal
Add dal, chilli, turmaric, asafoetida
Add water to that
whistled it for 4
Mash the cooked dal once
Take your ingredients
In a kadai add oil
Add onions
Add in tomatoes
Toss well
Then add tamarind
Now add sambar powder to that
Some salt 
Mix it well
Pour the cooked dal to it
Let them to boil
Add coconut
Some pinch of coriander
In another kadai add oil, mustard, urad dal
Cumin seeds
Broken red chilli
Some curry leaves
Fried it
When the sambar is ready
Add tempered items to that
Now give a mix and off the stove..
Sambar is done
It's time to make idli sambar
Take mini idli and sambar 
Arrange the mini idli
Now pour sambar, sprinkle some coriander leaves
Do not soak for long time and 
keep as it will became soggy and mushy
Serve hot
