Aatukal Kuzhambu / Goat Leg Curry


Preparation time : 20 mins
Cooking time : 30 mins
Serve - 4 to 5

INGREDIENTS:

Goat leg / Aatukal  - 3
Small onion - 1/4 kg(cut it into pieces)
Mustard seeds - 1 1/2 spn
Salt - as required
Brinjal - 8 (cutted into sliced)
Gingelly oil - 5spn
Curry leaves - as required
Turmeric powder - 1/2 spn

FOR CLEANING :

Salt  - 3 spn
Warm water - 2 cups

FOR MASALA:
  • Small onion - 15, Ginger - 3 small pieces, Garlic - 6 (cloves)
  • Red Chilli - 25 , Coriander seeds - 4 spn , Cumin seed - 1spn
  • Grated coconut - 1 cup
METHOD:
  • Grainded the grainding things first as per the picture. 
  • Heat leg on the direct flame and scrub with salt and wash it with warm water and cut into small pieces.(so that leg became light brown colour)
  • In a pressure cooker add the goat leg, turmeric powder and add water to it and whistled it for 5 to 6.
  • Now add onion along with ginger garlic paste, chilli coriander paste, coconut paste, and salt 
  • Bring to boil for 10 min.Untill the raw smell is gone 
  • In another kadai add gingelly oil, mustard seeds, some small onion and curry leaves fry it till brown.
  • Add some chilli paste on the oil to change the colour (so that the kuzhambu became redish)
  • Pour it on the gravy and add brinjal to it, then close the lid and cook for 8 mins. 
  • Untill the brinjal cooked well then in slow flame for 2 mins till oil floats on top.
  • Now the Aatukal kuzhambu / goat leg curry is ready.
  • Serve it with steamed white rice.
PICTORIAL:



 Take leg and heat it on the direct flame
 Scrub it with salt and wash with warm water
Cut it into small pieces
Add leg, water, and turmaric powder
 
Mix well
Close it and whistled it for 5
Take chilli, cumin and coriander
Dry roast it
Lightly
Add it to blender 
Grind it into fine paste
Now grind these thinks also
Add it to the blender
Grind it into fine paste
Now grind coconut also
Grind it into fine paste
Now take your ingredients
Open the cooker 
Add in onion paste
Chilli paste
Add in coconut paste
Some water to that
Mix well
Add in salt 
Bring to boil 
In another stove add oil 
Add in mustard
Chopped onions
Some curry leaves
Add some chilli paste on the oil to change the colour 
Fry it for a min
Pour to the boiling gravy
Now add cutted brinjal 
Just cover it for 5 mins 
Now see how it's cooked
Put it on the slow flame till oil floats on the top
YUM.. YUM... YUMMY 
Ready to serve with white rice

Aatukal kuzhambu / goat leg curry is one of the delicious south indian dish especially tirunelveli. Most people Have a love or hate relationship with the dish. My husband loves it and i am not a big fan of it. In my village when the temple function is going to end many of devoties dedicated goats to god, at that time every one in the villagers prepare this type of huzhambu, mutton kuzhambu, Lamp intestine curry and white rice in their homes. And invites all other relatives to the home to enjoyed the wonderful meals..........so i try this recipe for you...........And let me know how its done to your tasty buds..........
