Karuveppilai Sadam / Curry Leaves Rice


Karuveppilai is one of the healthy ingredients we use in our daily cooking. But sadly we pick and throw it away.... It's packed with fiber, calcium, phosphorous, rich in iron, not only it helps your heart function better, fights infections and also enliven your hair & skin with vatality... so we always want to consume it.. 


I use it in my hair oil, just for the sake of the hair fall and now to avoid grey hair.. My friend ask me to prepare to post this curry leaves rice so I plan to try this recipe to her. Packed this for your kids lunch box tooo... (the lunch is packed with healthy benifits)

INGREDIENTS :

Boiled rice - 1 cup (i use normal rice)
Salt - as needed

TO ROAST AND POWDER:

Curry leaves - 1 cup or a hand ful
Channa dal - 1 tbspn
Toor dal - 1 tbspn
Red chilli - 6 to 7 nos
Coriander seeds - 1 tspn
Pepper corns - 1/2 tspn
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tspn
Gingelly oil - 2 tspn

TO TEMPER :

Gigelly oil - 1 tbspn
Mustard - 1 tspn
Urad dal - 1 tspn
Channa dal - 1 tbspn
Cashew - 7 to 10 nos

METHOD :

  • First cook the rice with a spoon of salt and allow to cool the rice in a broad vessel.
  • Roast all the items under " To roast and powder ". Roast untill it turn light golden in colour.
  • Once cooled, Add the roasted items to a blender and make it a fine paste..
  • In the same pan with oil, add in mustard seeds and urad dal, allow to crackle..
  • Add in channa dal and cashew, fry till it crisp.. keep aside.
  • Take rice and add in powdered masala curry leaves powder, tempered items and mix well.
  • Please check the salt, mix it evenly..
  • Now the curry leaves rice is ready to serve.
  • Enjoy..

PICTORIAL :


 Take all the ingredients for roasting
 Add them to a pan, except curry leaves
 Add some oil
 Roast till golden 
 Once it roasted
 Add in fresh curry leaves
 For 2 to 3 mins in low flame
 Once it cool add them to a blender
 Make it a fine powder
 Cook the rice with salt and allow to cool
Once it cool completely
 Add curry leaves masala powder
 Now make a temper, heat a pan with oil
 Add in mustard and urad dal 
 When it crackle
 Add in channa dal and cashew
Fry till golden
 Pour over your rice
 Now it's time to mix
 Mix it evenly
 Check the salt
 Now it's done
 Transfer them to a bowl
 Serve hot
 Enjoy..
