Pumpkin Kathi / Thadiyangai Mour Kuzhambu



Pumpkin kadhi is a yogurt based curry made with pumpkin. It is very healthy and nutritious food. The recipe is very light with less amount of oil and spices, makes it an excellent cuisine for healthy conscious people. It contain a rich source of vitamins and calcium.


A very spongy texture and it's sweetness with a combination of thick gravy in sour yogurt makes it a delicious. Let us start to cooking this yummy recipe at your home......

Cooking time : 20 mins
Serve - 5 

INGREDIENTS :

White pumpkin / Thadiyangai - 1/2 kg (sliced)
Yogurt - 1 cup
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tspn
Salt - as needed
Water - as needed

FOR MASALA : 

Coconut - 1/4 cup
Cumin seeds - 1/4 tspn
Shallots / small onins - 6
Green chilli - 2 
Garlic - 2
Soaked raw rice - 1 tspn
Soaked bengal gram - 1 tspn

FOR TEMPER :

Coconut oil - 2 tspn
Mustard - 1 tspn
Urad dal - 1 tspn
Shallots / small onions - 3 (chopped)
Red chilli - 2 (broken)

METHOD :

  • First grind the grinding items (given in the ingredients) into fine paste.
  • Let's start to grind, for that you have to soaked raw rice and bengal gram for 10 mins.
  • And grind the grinding things given in the ingredients (for masala).
  • In a kadai add sliced pumpkin and water allow to cook on a medium flame for 5 mins.
  • Add masala into the boiled pumpkin and add in turmeric, salt and cooked it for 10 mins. untill the raw smell is gone 
  • Now off the stove and In another kadai temper the items one by one given in the ingredients.
  • Pour it into the pumpkin mixture and atlast add yogurt to it and mix well.
  • If you want add some water on it and mix well.
  • Now the pumpkin kathi is ready.


PICTORIAL :


Take your ingredients
Add pumpkin to the kadai
Add in water let them to boil
Soak the rice and dal
Now take masala ingredients
Add to the blender and grind it into fine paste
Pour the masala on pumpkin mixture
Add in turmeric powder
Then salt allow to boil
In another kadai add oil, mustard, urad dal allow to crackle
Add in small onions
Add in curry leaves and broken chillies
Add to the pumpkin mixture
Mix well
Add in yogurt 
Pour some water  
Mix it well 
Serve hot
