Urad Dal (ulundhu) Rice / Ulundu Choru


Urad dal rice is a delicious indian recipe served as a main dish.. This is a common dish in my house. We make this rice, atleast twice once a month.. So today we will learn how to make a simple urad dal rice and it is match with any nonveg gravy.... Everybody loved it..


I search for some simple recipes in my traditional categories and i choose this rice. It's most popular in south especially in tirunelveli. We often prepare at home either as rice or porridge with few changes. 



But this is totally different and you can gain all the healthy benefits from urad dal, garlic and cumin seeds. And the dish is best match with nattu kozhi kuzhanbu. So you must try this at home and let me tell how it's come out from you.....

Preparation time : 10 mins
Cooking time : 15 mins
Serve : 4

INGREDIENTS :

Rice - 1 cup
Splited urad dal with skin / ulunthu - 1 1/2 cup
Garlic gloves - 15
Cumin seeds - 1 tspn
Ginger - 1 spn (chopped)
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Urad dal - 1/2 spn
Coconut - 1 cup
Curry leaves - as needed
Gingelly oil - 3 spn
Water - 5 cups

METHOD :

  • Mix both the rice, urad dal and wash it and keep aside 
  • In a pressure cooker add in oil, mustard seeds, urad dal, and toss it for a min.
  • Now add ginger, cumin seeds, garlic, curry leaves and toss well in the oil.
  • Now add washed rice again toss it in the oil.
  • And add in water, coconut, salt and close it with the lid and cook untill 3 whistled.
  • Wait for the steam to suppress and fluff it off the rice using ladle.
  • Serve hot with nattu kozhi kuzhambu. 
  • Click nattu kozhi kuzhambu to view.
  • Enjoy..

Take ur ingredients
Combain both rice and dal
In a cooker add oil
Mustard and urad dal
Then add in cumin seeds
Chopped ginger
Some curry leaves
Garlic gloves
Toss them along with the oil
Add in washed rice
Water
Then coconut
Some salt to taste
Cook untill 3 whistles
Open after the steam subside
Serve hot
